Description:
When Mexico refused a U.S. purchase of what would later become the bottom portion of Texas, President Polk mobilized troops to the disputed border zone. Mexico attacked a fort in this zone, starting the Mexican-American war. As per the peace terms, the United States ceded what would later become states including Utah, New Mexico and California.
