Polyfest, now one of the largest Polynesian Festivals in the world, began at Hillary College, Otara in 1976. As read from the website http://www.asbpolyfest.co.nz, "Students, Michael Rollo and Mata (Te Kii) Raela, and staff members, Mr Bill Tawhai, Mr Hone and Mrs Heni Green, envisioned the festival's potential success".
