1 janv. 500 av. J.-C. - ENGLAND

Description:

In the beginning of the "Middle age" England was under rule of Roman Empire, and latin was the language of power. The retreat of the Romans paved the way for the Germanic tribes - the Angles, Saxons and Jutes, who imposed their rule and language onto the Celtic people. The viking invasions also had a lasting impact on the language. However, the most important change of the language came with the Norman Conquest. In 1066, the French Norman, William the Conqueror, led the last invasion of England, won the battle of Hastings and became king of England. French was then introduced in the court and in the law.
