1 janv. 1846 - Wilmot Proviso

Description:

An act of congress which passed the House of Representatives twice but was both times shot down in the Senate. It said that slavery would not be permitted in any of the new territories acquired in the future. This was positive for the abolitionist movement because it showed that there was support for the free soil movement in congress.
