Taiwan's coast guards used water cannons to drive off a Vietnamese fishing boat near disputed islands in the South China Sea. Authorities initially found two Vietnamese fishing boats near Taiping Island, an Taiwan-administered islet in the Spratlys. After reportedly warning the vessels, the coast guards approached the two boats, causing one to leave and the other to maneuver in a zigzag in attempting to remain in the area. It was then that one coast guard vessel opened fire with their water cannon to prevent them from being rammed by the fishing boat.
