1 janv. 1911 - Strikebreakers

Description:

Immigrants who came into Lowell were used as “Strikebreakers”. These immigrants were willing to work for less, so managers of mills who had workers going on strike for better wages could just fire those who were on strike and enlist those new immigrants. But, the immigrants who came in eventually went on strike for better conditions and wages. Those immigrants were then replaced by new strikebreakers who were willing to work for less. The immigrants came in waves, so there was always a wave of new immigrants who were willing to be paid low wages and work in bad conditions as long as it meant that their family had a chance.
