Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson unites Denmark and becomes king. His son, Sweyn Forkbeard, raided England numerous times and demanded "Danegeld" – a tribute paid to Viking raiders in order to save their land from being ravaged. In 991 alone, the Danes acquired 4500 kg of silver from England.
