20 janv. 911 - Rollo becomes Count of Rouen

Description:

Leading up to it, Danish Vikings raided northern coasts and rivers of France. The French fortified bridges to defend against the Vikings but often failed. Under Ragnar, the Vikings sailed the Seine river and sacked Paris, leaving after a tribute of 2600 kg of silk from the Frankish king Charles the Bold. The 911 Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte between King Charles III of West Frankia and Viking chief Rollo declared Rollo Count of Rouen, France in exchange for his conversion to Christianity and protection against Viking raids.
