After Napoleon's crushing defeat during the War of the Sixth Coalition, he was forced to abdicate the throne of Emperor and King Louis XVIII was restored to the throne. He was exiled to a small Italian island called Elba where he lived for about 10 months. However, he escaped on a French warship and returned to France. He pretty much just strolled up to the first French detatchment he found and started creating another army.
