10 nov 1799 - Napoleon declares himself the first Consul of France
Description:
Since Napoleon's coup was very successful, and he had support from many high ranking government officials such as his brother and the common people of France, he had a great opportunity to snag some power for himself. He had to be careful however, because people could easily withdraw that support if they felt he was becoming tyrannical. By declaring himself the first Consul of France, he was able to be the head of the French government while still appearing to be an elected official.
