Description:
1870's Congress adopted land policy to suit the arid west. The timber culture act of 1873 allowed a person to claim title to 160 acres of land by planting trees on one quarter of it. 1877 the desert lands act made 640 acres of desert land available for $1.25 per acre if irrigated for 3 years.
