Description:
In response to the Western Powers admitting West Germany to NATO, the Warsaw Pact was established among Eastern European countries as an organization focused on collective security. This treaty provided for a unified military command and for the maintenance of Soviet military units on the territories of other states. It was also used as leverage in regards to Soviet Union international diplomacy. As a result of its opposing nature to NATO, this increased tensions.
