The Marshal plan was signed into law by President Truman on April 3rd, 1948, and was an American initiative to give over 12 billion dollars in economic assistance to rebuild Western European economies. The goals were to remove trade barriers, modernize industry, improve prosperity, and prevent the spread of communism. This move to combat communism increased tensions.
