Hernan Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire, and killed their emperor. Moctezuma II was unpopular, and he used this as an advantage. Cortes had guns, horses, and metal armor, which the Aztecs were unable to compete against. He conquered Tenochtitlan, which was a city floating on water.
