Whirligig Theatre was founded in the UK in 1979 by David Wood. They specialised in musical theatre which, in itself, involves high levels of physical movement, as well as a sung narrative. Wood himself played a large part in the direction of many children’s novels into theatrical pieces, such as the works of Roald Dahl; The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFGAjouté au bande de temps:
