1 janv. 1617 - Assassination of Concini

Description:

On Monday 24th April 1617, as Concini made his way to the Louvre, he was separated from his escort and then shot by the kings bodyguard, the Marquis de Vitry.
This was justified by a royal death warrant and decree.
The siege of Soissons was lifted peacefully.
Leonora was tried by the parlements for treason and witchcraft before being executed in July 1617.
Concini’s body was later dug up by the mob and further mutilated before being hung on the Pont de Neuf.
Following Concini’s death:
An assembly of notables met in 1617 to decide how best to put into effect the principle demands of the estates general of 1614.
The paulette (a hereditary tax introduced by sully in 1604, giving some security to office holders and their heirs.) was abolished.
Marie de Medici was effectively put under house arrest in Blois.
The dominant figure at court became the Duke of Luynes.
