Description:

The battle of Conception the first major armed conflict of the Texas revolution. It was between Texas rebels, lead by Jim Bowie and James Fannin, and the Mexicans, led by General Domingo Ugartechea. The battle took place at mission Conception. Stephen F. Austin sent Fannin and Bowie, along with 90 other soldiers, to find a defensible place to rest near San Antonio, or Bexar. After choosing the mission of conception, they decided to rest. When Captain Martin Perfecto De Cos, Santa Anna's cousin, learned the texans were split up, he sent General Domingo Ugartechea and 275 soldiers down there to attack. After a hard-fought battle by the Texans, the Mexicans retreated in just 30 minutes. Between 14 and 75 Mexicans died, while only one Texan died.
