Description:
5 seperate bills passed by the congress to diffuse tensions betwwn slave & free states on the territories acquired from the mexicans
CAUSE OF CIVIL WAR:
- admitted CA as a free state & it didnt regulate slavery in the remainder of the Mexican cession while strengthening the fugitive slave act (Northerners has to capture and bring escaped slaves back to the south)
-the fugitive slave law inspired the Undergound Railroad, which helped slaves escape to Canada
along with support of northern abolitionists, the railroads angered the south
put slavery issue into politics for the first time, which caused tension between the north and south
