Humans religions completely took over the original gods. Having less and less prayers, their power decreased and slowly became nothing...
Betrayed by some of their Divine Spirits, gods needed to protect themselves and to recreate a new source of power for some of the elements...
They flew away and sealed themselves in their own dimension in order to work on other things. Magic and youkai were slowly disappearing on Earth... The surviving youkai hide in the deepest underground on Earth while all the knowledge about magic was disappearing.
