1 mars 1942 - Auschwitz becomes a concentration camp.

Description:

The Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp in southern Poland was the largest in Nazi Germany's extermination camps during World War II, killing approximately one million and two hundred thousand people, including one million and one hundred thousand (91%), more than any other site during the war. It was the extermination camp that operated for the most time (from June 1940 to January 1945) of all the extermination camps, culminating in the industrialization of mass murder. At its height, Auschwitz was a "vast empire", which included 45 camps covering 40 square kilometers.
