The french revolution was a revolution by french countrymen to overthrow a ruler that had been living wealthy at the expense of the people. I was a major shift in the ideals of one of the most powerful nations in europe and would have consequences for years to come. The largest difference with the french revolution when compared to others was that is was actually challenging the ideas of the enlightenment, and while not being too different from traditional europe was a massive shift from what it had become. It was not a shift towards enlightenment ideals, it was the opposite, and would shake the now normal ideas that had formed over the past century.
