1 déc. 1936 - Hitler Youth Law

Description:

This law made it compulsory for children to join the Hitler Youth, an organisation that was originally voluntary.
The aim of the Hitler Youth was to prepare boys to become soldiers. There was a heavy emphasis on sport and military drills. For a long while it appealed to young boys, they would go on camps and use explosives as well as marching, making them feel important. However, when these groups became compulsory, they became less popular, it became more about lecturing on propaganda and the 4 year plan to prepare for war. It wasn't seen as "cool" anymore so teenagers started to rebel.
The girls' version of this was the BDM. In this there was also focus on sport so that they remained fit and healthy. However, girls were taught domestic skills such as cooking and sewing. This would prepare them to become good German mothers.
