Description:
statins (drugs used to reduce cholesterol) were found to improve survival in patients with coronary artery disease. Patients presenting with a heart attack are treated with heart catheterization (Procedure to detect any blockages in the coronary arteries through a small puncture in an artery, commonly in the groin or wrist) and angioplasty(opening of a closed artery with inflation of a balloon catheter). Non-drug-coated stents (bare-metal stents) were used after angioplasty to prevent immediate closure of the artery.
