The Ziggurat of Ur was built by King Ur-Nammu of the third dynasty of Ur for the moon goddess Nanna. To visit the ziggurat at Ur was to seek both spiritual and physical nourishment.
The Ziggurat of Ur was important because it brought the Sumerians closer to the gods, so they could practice their beliefs.
