Description:
1. 9 black students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School2. Orval Eugene Faubus, governor of Arkansas, sent 270 soldiers from the Arkansas National Guard to protect the 9 students from angry crowds.

5. More black students enrolled in typically all-white schools. The mayor of Little Rock closed all schools and other Southern school districts followed suit. They also subsidized white attendance at segregated private schools.
