17 mai 1954 - Brown v. Board of Education

Description:

A Supreme Court case where multiple different cases were consolidated and related to segregation in public schools. African Americans were denied admittance to certain schools based on their race and claimed that segregation violated the Equal Protection Clause and the Fourteenth Amendment. This was located at Monroe school and included Oliver Brown, Mrs. Richard Lawton, Mrs. Sadie Emmanuel, et. and the Board of Education of Topeka , Kansas. One cause would be Plessy v. Ferguson where the Court ruled that states can segregate as long as they provide separate but equal facilities. An effect of this case would be slow integration of blacks in the Deep South, it caused litigation which tried to stop white flight, almost every Court case was in favor of integrating public schools.
