6 août 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965

Description:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed discrimination in voting that had become present in Southern states and had created prerequisites to voting. This Act was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson, and passed in both the House and Senate in D.C. "Bloody Sunday" as it came to be called, was an impetus toward passing this Act; peaceful protestors against voter suppression were attacked by state troopers. This Act had a big impact on the black voter turnout in the South. Barriers to voting were now illegal, which allowed many more African-Americans to make their voices heard at the polls.
