15 sept. 1850 - Compromise of 1850
Description:
Series of agreements over the new territory acquired in the Mexican-American war. It tried to maintain the balance of power in American over slavery by (1) Admitting California as a free state, (2) Stopped the Wicot Proviso, (3) Banned Slave Trade in the District of Columbia, and (4) most controversially, strengthened the Fugitive Slave Law, which required that slaves be returned to their masters, even if they escape to free territory.
