Works hard to kill the Staphylococcus germ - went on holiday - left several plates of the germ on a bench - came home - noticed blob of mould on one of the dishes - realised germ next to the mould had been killed - tested mould found it was penicillium mould - that it was natural antiseptic and published paper - failed to inject penicillin into animal which would have shown penicillin could be used as a medicine - People didn't take much notice and Fleming lost interest in it.
