This doctrine given by Monroe in the state of the union told European nations that the western hemisphere was no longer going to be interfered with by European powers, which was a very strong isolationist stance.

This greatly affected American culture because it showed that America represented the entire western hemisphere and created a very clear separation from Europe, moving away from being an Atlantic nation to being a nation centered on the American continent.
