The War of 1812 was fought over the naval impressment of American ships by the British. When news of this spread, war was declared. The war ended with a the Battle of New Orleans, where Andrew Jackson's army led America to victory. This was was fought over the premise of exchange and trade, and had long-term impacts regarding the perception of foreign exchange and trade in the eyes of the public. Farmers and the working class also went through an economic rollercoaster during the first few years after ratification. The cut of trade and exchange significantly increased hardship for farmers and the working classes, many of whom relied on trade as a livelihood.
