The battle of Marston Moor (July 2, 1644) was an important battle in the English Civil War where Royalist Troops in the city were surrounded by a mix of English Parliamentarian and Scottish army, which was led by Lord FairFax and The Earl of Manchester. When the Royalists were defeated, this meant that they had lost control of Northern England.
