1 juin 1852 - *Dred Scott v Sandford* In 1857, Supreme Court Justice Tanney ruled that African Americans were not citizens of the US. Congrees could not exclude slavery from any federal territory and the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional. The Southern Democrats were happy, but the Northern Republicans were infuriated.
