Description:
Ship that flew under the American flag was shelled and torpedoed by German vessels, some doubted Germany attacked it. It was believed it was, and tensions would rise once more. With the death of 49 sailors, it was seen as a direct attack by Nazi Germany. The British would help with the rescue efforts. This also contributed to congress ditching the Neutrality act and bringing the Lend-Lease Act.
