28 nov 1830 - Indian Removal Act

Description:

Signed into law by President Andrew Jackson, the Indian Removal Act represents a change as it granted all unsettled land west of the Mississippi River to be exchanged with Indian Territory. The march of the Native Americans leaving their homelands was called the Trail of Tears. Some tribes suffered huge population losses, such as the Cherokee in which 4,000 of their people died between the winters of 1838 and 1839. This event shows a change in the territory Native Americans own as it states that all land east of the Mississippi River is now public domain. This act forced all Native Americans east of the Mississippi to get up and leave their land for a place they have never even known. This was a negative change and gave the US President the power to make treaties with the tribes east of the Mississippi River.
