5 mars 1770 - Boston Massacre

Description:

This extremely publicized and dramatized event was in reality, a riotous street fight between mob like colonials and British officers. Taking place March 5, 1770, the affair began when the Bostonians began to assault the British officers both verbally and with snowballs and sticks. Roughly 50 of the Bostonians attacked an officer, prompting him to call for backup soldiers that then opened fire on the mob. There were 5 total deaths (3 of them happening at the event), along with an additional 6 injuries. This event was followed by outrage, with colonists demanding the soldiers leave the city, and with others painting the event as an attack on innocent lives by the brutal British. Both of these reactions were incremental to the Revolutionary War, as it not only incited anger but also led to the troops being taken from the city.
