Description:

Indian mathmetician Acharya Pingala was the first one to show that all numbers can be written using a series of only two symbols: zero and one.

Binary code is still important in computer science today, nearly two millennia after its initial creation. I would justify its appearance on this list by saying that its lasting effect on the world, simplicity, and revolutionary nature make it well worthy of being a part of the history of computer science.
