1 nov 1688 - The Glorious Revolution

Description:

In England, James II became king in 1685, but unfortunately was Catholic. This caused uproar among the English politicians which resulted in what's known as the "Glorious Revolution" in 1688. This Revolution was largely non-violent and ended with James' Dutch cousin, William of Orange travelling to England and replacing him as king.

From 1689 onwards it was officially and legally established that the English monarchy could not rule without the Parliament's consent, and all major decisions including laws, taxes, and wars were to go through Parliament first. Along with this, clarification was set out on exactly how the Crown would be passed down and that the monarchs had to be of the Church of England and definitely not Catholic in any way.
