22 oct. 1988 - Black Friday Changes Origins
Description:
Due to the need to appeal to a mass market, business leaders attempted to remove the connotations behind the origin of the first use of "Black Friday" in a market context. Black Friday instead was a reference to an accounting standard in which negative accounts were written in red while positive ones were written in black. As the weeks before the holiday would often see high profit surpluses, it was called "Black Friday".
