Reason: American custom service was losing money; the prime minister believed people weren’t paying duties.• Halved the duty on foreign made molasses
Lower tax means less smuggling
• Put duties on certain imports that weren’t taxed before
• Colonist’s accused of violating the act would be put through trial through A judge with in non-colonial jury.
