12 mars 1599 - The Globe

Description:

This was done at Bankside in Southwark on the south bank of the River Thames in 1599 with the money for the new theatre, called ‘The Globe’, being put up by the Burbage brothers - Richard and Cuthbert, and ‘shared’ with four actors from the company, Thomas Pope, John Heminges, Augustine Phillips and William Shakespeare. The first play to be performed in ‘The Globe’ was probably ‘Julius Caesar’, as a tourist called Thomas Platter recorded in his diary on 21 September that, ‘we witnessed an excellent performance of the tragedy of the first Emperor, Julius Caesar’.
