15 août 1890 - Sherman Act
Description:
The Federal antitrust act that makes monopoly and conspiracies to restrain trade criminal offenses.
The Sherman Act outlawed restraints of trade (collusive pricing and dividing up markets) as well as monopolization. This Act seemed to provide a sound foundation for positive government action against business monopolies. However, the business community itself sought a clearer statement of what was legal and what was illegal.
