14 févr. 1920 - US Steel Case: Monopoly Behavior vs Monopoly Structure
Description:
The antitrust action brought by the Federal government against the US Steel Corporation in which the courts established a rule of reason.
The Courts ruled that only unreasonable restraints of trade were illegal and that size and the possession of monopoly power were not violations of the antitrust laws. Although US Steel clearly possessed monopoly power, it was innocent of “monopolizing” because it had not resorted to illegal acts against competitors in obtaining power. US Steel was labelled a “good trust.”
