1 janv. 1925 - Scopes Trial Decided
Description:
The Scopes Trial happens when John Scopes, a high school biology teacher, taught evolution in a school in Tennessee, where the law forbade such teaching. The trial highlighted the controversy between the values of Christian fundamentalism (which was popular at the time, and commonly taught the creation myth account of the origins of human existence) and the new science that they believed contradicted their ideas. Ultimately Scopes lost the ensuing court case, but the verdict was eventually overturned. (Continuity: new science conflicted with old religious beliefs) (Effect: heightened awareness of the conflict between fundamentalism and science)
