1 janv. 1862 - Suspension of Habeas Corpus
Description:
In an executive order, President Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus (the right to appear in court in person upon being arrested) in order to suppress resistance to the Union’s efforts in the Civil War. This was unprecedented because habeas corpus is a right granted in Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution.
