17 avr. 1985 - Bill C-31 Changes The Indian Act To End Some of The Discrimination

Description:

Under the Indian Act, an Indigenous woman who marries a non-Indigenous man would lose her status. If she married an Indigenous man from a different group, she would no longer of her own and become a member of her husband's. Either way, an Indigenous woman will be separated from her family as well as her community.

The amendment made in 1985 ended that law. As a result, 127 000 women have restored their status as Indigenous.
