1 janv. 1803 - Marbury v
Madison
Description:
This case was brought due to the Judicial Act of 1801. Madison was ordered to fill the judges appointed by the act but refused to. One of the judges, named Marbury, sues Madison for not giving him the position. The court denies his suit claiming that the Judicial Act was unconstitutional. This expanded the Supreme Court's power to allow for judicial review, or the idea that the Supreme Court can declare laws unconstitutional.
