11 mars 509 av. J.-C. - Forum Romanum

Description:

The Forum lies in a valley below the Capitoline and Palatine Hills in Rome. Etruscan Kings (who ruled Rome until 509 BC) drained the marshlands of this area into the Tiber River and since that time this area became a center of activity for the city. It was the political heart of Republican and Imperial Rome. This was the site of Ancient Rome's first forum. Elections were held here, the Senate assembled here, and triumphal processions took place here. The Forum Romanum contained many temples, triumphal arches, basilicas, the curia, etc., all laid out in a linear axial sequence along the valley floor.
