1 déc. 1350 - Alcazar of Seville, Spain

Description:

Alcazar comes form the Arabic "al-qasr" meaning "castle" or "palace". Originally an Arabic palace fortress, partially destroyed and then re-built by the Christian King Peter of Castile in the 1350s. The Alcazar is a pre-eminent example of Mudejar* architecture in the Iberian peninsula.

*Mudejar is an architectural and decorative style which developed in Spain after the Christian reconquest. It was influenced by Moorish workmanship and patterning. The Muslims loved geometry and expressed it in their architecture. They exposed and ornamented the structural system rather than concealing it as the Romans and Byzantines did.
