1 janv. 1868 - 1868 - The Burlingame Treaty established equal diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and China. However, it established that both nations withheld the right to naturalize for citizens of the opposite nation, which meant that the many Chinese immigrants in the United States could not naturalize and become citizens.
